Half-day conference - scheduled for September 26 - kicks off a series of special Bicentennial events that will be open to the public
The Lawrenceville School will present The Aldo Leopold Symposium on Sustainability, a half-day conference, on Saturday, September 26, 2009 from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the Clark Music Center. The Symposium, which is free and open to the public, is the first in a series of special events commemorating the Bicentennial year of the school.
Kicking off the conference will be a keynote presentation on Environmental Education by Chris Maxey, co-founder of The Island School and director of the Cape Eleuthera Foundation in The Bahamas.
Following Maxey’s address will be a series of interactive break-out sessions led by staff and faculty who are at the forefront of The Lawrenceville School’s Green Campus Initiative, the school’s holistic approach to campus sustainability. The Symposium will conclude with a walking tour of the historic campus and a locally focused, fresh lunch.
According to Sam Kosoff, sustainability director for The Lawrenceville School, the conference is primarily geared for administrators and faculty of academic institutions, business leaders, government officials, community leaders, and local citizens interested in developing stronger sustainability initiatives. “This event will give individuals a unique opportunity to come together to share their experiences, challenges and successes related to local and regional greening efforts,” said Kosoff.
Those wishing to attend The Aldo Leopold Symposium on Sustainability may register by sending an email to Mary Harrison (mharrison@lawrenceville.org) stating the names and affiliations of all guests in their party by September 12. While admission is free, space is limited.
