Mock Trial Club Earns a Split Decision
It was a split decision for Lawrenceville at the 30th annual Vincent J. Apruzzese Mock Trial Competition, hosted by the Mercer County Bar Association, held earlier this month. The completion, which drew teams from 13 area high schools, immerses students in the law by allowing them to portray traditional courtroom roles. This year's case concerned a high school basketball star — allegedly a follower of a notorious hate blogger — who surreptitiously enters his/her math teacher's home and is charged with burglary, criminal trespass, theft, and bias theft. In separate mock trials, Lawrenceville's prosecution team was defeated, but its defense group earned a victory.

Lawrentians generated a great deal of grace and love on Jan. 18 as they celebrated the School's 10th annual Day of Service in honor of the Rev. Martin Luther King. Classes were cancelled so all students could volunteer time at one of nearly 70 local projects. The herculean project is coordinated by Rachel Cantlay, director of Community Service, who was pleased student efforts this year. "I heard nothing but wonderful things about how hard working, enthusiastic and engaged you were," Cantlay told Lawrentians. "You read to hundreds of little kids, sang and played music for nursing home residents, painted walls, designed murals, sorted clothing, packed hundreds of food boxes, played math games, taught dance moves, served lunch to homeless families, and did activities with children in over 90 classrooms. Quite an impact!"
