Keio Shonan Fujisawa Junior
and Senior High School
The Keio School in Yokohama, Japan, just outside of Tokyo, has had a relationship with Lawrenceville for more than 10 years, during which time we have offered students from both schools the opportunity to study at each other’s institutions. Although our Japanese language program is coming to an end at Lawrenceville, both schools look forward to continuing this relationship to allow our students this opportunity to experience life abroad in the host country. Starting with the summer of 2012, our program with Keio will change from a language immersion experience to one that represents a true school classroom-to-classroom exchange.
This new relationship is almost completely funded by Keio, the host school, and is offered to our students at a reduced cost. With only two students able to participate each year, those interested will need to complete an application which will be provided only to interested students, and conduct an interview with members from the International Programs Office. Prior to departure in June 2012, the two students selected will participate in two Japanese language and cultural history lessons during spring term 2012.
Please note that this trip is not chaperoned by a Lawrenceville faculty member; the selected students will travel to Japan from Newark on their own to meet the program supervisor, Mr. Sugiyama, and their host families. Our students will stay with the same Keio students who will visit Lawrenceville in February and will attend the Japanese school for two weeks. They will visit local attractions with their host families on the weekends.
