Lawrenceville School Ice Hockey Tournament

The first tournament took place January 2-4, 1949. It replaced the Northwood School Tournament held for several years at Lake Placid, NY before the Second World War. The first participants were: Andover, Choate, Exeter, Lawrenceville, Hill, Nichols, Northwood, and Peddie. Nichols defeated Exeter 3-2 in the championship game. The tournament was started by the Friends of Princeton Hockey and Lawrenceville graduate Carl Erdman '15 was the leader. "Carl really got the tournament started," said Larry Tiihonen, who was the Lawrenceville Director of Athletics from 1934 to 1966.
