Strength and Conditioning Department

Mission

As the Strength and Conditioning coaches of the Lawrenceville School, we believe in the pursuit of excellence in our student-athletes as well as in ourselves. It is our job to create and implement effective speed and strength training programs specific to the demands of each sport (and position) in our state-of-the-art sports performance facility. Our goal is to provide each and every student-athlete with the opportunity to fulfill, if not exceed, his or her athletic potential. Our areas of focus include: strength, speed, power, agility, flexibility, endurance, body composition, nutrition, and mental toughness

Our Program

Pre-season is the best time to prepare the body for a rigorous season. All major strength and power gains should be done during this time. Once the athlete enters his/her sports season, it is then vital to continue to strength train once or twice per week to maintain the pre-season gains. Each athlete will gradually lose what he/she has gained as the in-season progresses; however, in-season lifting will help to slow down this de-conditioning process. Circuit training is our means of in-season maintenance.

Circuit Training, developed in the 1950’s, is the best way to fit a total-body conditioning routine into a short block of time. It is a highly efficient method of training, simply because exercises using opposite muscle groups can be paired back-to-back. The benefit of circuit training is the ability to work muscular strength and endurance at the same time, as well as working the cardio respiratory (aerobic) system. The concept to understand about circuit training is to achieve maximum results in a minimal amount of time.
