Good Samaritan Opens Doors
Particularly for students in middle- and upper-income families, college visits are as much a part of the college selection process as filling out applications. Attending open houses, going on tours, maybe even spending a night or two on campus are considered essential to making the right decision for the student’s future. But what about students whose families can barely make ends meet, who will be relying on significant scholarship support to attend college, who may have to choose a school based solely on materials from its admissions office? Particularly for students from underserved populations, finding the right fit can be crucial to a successful college experience. Read more
From Atlantic to Pacific, Lawrentians are Terrific
John Yu ’82 was so impressed by the Campaign celebration he attended with classmate Joe Tsai ’82 in Hong Kong last fall, he decided to host his own version in his home city of Taipei (Taiwan). With a small but exceptionally loyal contingent of Lawrenceville alumni, parents and past parents in the vicinity, and assisted by trustee Judith Corrente P’98 ’01 and Martin Matsui ’76, president of The Lawrenceville Club of Hong Kong, John attracted 20 guests to a fabulous dinner at The American Club. Dedication of Al-Rashid Health and Wellness Center Makes It Official
The outside temperature was an unforgiving 20 degrees Fahrenheit, but inside the new Al-Rashid Health and Wellness Center, the mood was clearly celebratory. Nearly 50 guests gathered to dedicate the first of two new buildings resulting from The Bicentennial Campaign. Read more
Hong Kong and Korea Celebrate the Campaign
Alumni and parents in Hong Kong and Korea recently took the opportunity to reinforce the central messages of The Bicentennial Campaign. On October 31 and November 4, respectively, committees in Hong Kong and Seoul, Korea, presented gala evenings to celebrate Lawrenceville and highlight the Campaign. Together, the receptions drew more than 150 alumni, parents and friends. Read more
E.E. Ford Grant Offers Matching Funds for Interdisciplinary Studies Program
Lawrenceville is one of the first five schools to receive an Educational Leadership Grant from the Edward E. Ford Foundation. The $250,000 grant will support the three-year launch of Lawrenceville’s redesigned Interdisciplinary Studies Program, providing funding for course development, co-teaching stipends, interdisciplinary consultants, and summer workshops for faculty. Learning to Think Globally
The Hope and Crosby “Road” movies of the ’40s, ’50s and ’60s had nothing on the educational journeys of Lawrenceville students. With seven trips already planned for Spring Break 2009, students and their faculty chaperones will be conducting field studies in tropical ecology along the Peruvian Amazon, tracing the path of two world wars in Europe, exploring the traditions and culture of Saudi Arabia, following Darwin’s footsteps in the Galapagos, and more. Revised Interdisciplinary Studies Program Seeks Answers to the Really Big Questions
When does life begin? What is race? What does it mean to be a good steward of the environment? How can we tackle systemic poverty? Lawrenceville School Increases Financial Aid Opportunities for International Students
As a part of its continued efforts to attract exceptional students from around the globe, The Lawrenceville School has expanded financial aid opportunities for international students. These efforts are being funded, in part, by recent gifts from both alumni and parents. To date, nearly two million dollars have been raised to provide financial support to international students. Just hours after the October 5, 2007, announcement marking this important stepping stone in Lawrenceville’s illustrious history, a loyal base of East Coast alumni and parent volunteers joined the faculty at the Lavino Field House for a reception at which students were the stars. Head Master Liz Duffy H’43 and Campaign Co-Chairs Tom Carter ’70, Art Joukowsky ’50 and Glenn Hutchins ’73 took the stage to welcome guests and describe how The Bicentennial Campaign will shape Lawrenceville’s future, but it was the students who underscored the message. Lawrenceville Selected to Pilot Davis International and Davis Scholarships
The Lawrenceville School, one of America’s oldest and most respected independent secondary schools, announced today that it has been selected as a pilot site to offer both Davis International and Davis Scholarships to incoming sophomores, juniors, and seniors. The School will welcome its first five International and first five Davis Scholars in the fall of 2008. Read more
Lawrenceville School Launches $200 Million Fundraising Campaign
Lawrenceville, N.J. — The Lawrenceville School, one of America’s oldest and most respected independent secondary schools, has announced the launch of a $200 million fundraising campaign leading up to its bicentennial anniversary in 2010. This launch is the culmination of two years of evaluation and planning, during which time the School secured more than $100 million in gifts and pledges.
