The official launch of The Bicenntennial Campaign has given Lawrentians across the globe a reason to celebrate.
Just hours after the October 5, 2007, announcement marking this important stepping stone in Lawrenceville’s illustrious history, a loyal base of East Coast alumni and parent volunteers joined the faculty at the Lavino Field House for a reception at which students were the stars. Head Master Liz Duffy H’43 and Campaign Co-Chairs Tom Carter ’70, Art Joukowsky ’50 and Glenn Hutchins ’73 took the stage to welcome guests and describe how The Bicentennial Campaign will shape Lawrenceville’s future, but it was the students who underscored the message.
It was only a matter of weeks before West Coast alumni and parents joined the celebration. Greg Hausler ’81, president of The Lawrenceville Club of Northern California, served as master of ceremonies at a reception on November 1 at the Ritz Carlton in San Francisco. The Head Master’s presentation of the Campaign video (featured at www.lawrenceville.org/bicentennial) shared top honors with special guest Dr. Joseph L. Henderson ’23.
Googan Bunn ’62, past president of Lawrenceville’s Board of Trustees, worked with Liz Duffy to bring the public face of the Campaign to the Midwest. Alumni, parents and friends gathered on November 14 at The Peninsula in Chicago to kick off the Campaign in the heartland.
Lawrentians around the world are continuing to build on the success of these early regional celebrations. Southern alumni will be meeting in Florida on February 6 at the Brazilian Court in Palm Beach, while those living in the Far East are planning Campaign events in Hong Kong and Seoul in October and November 2008, respectively.
The events thus far have been a resounding success, generating momentum for the Campaign and raising more than $13 million for Lawrenceville since October 5. Added to the more than $100 million in gifts and pledges secured during the early phase of fundraising, The Bicentennial Campaign — Proud Tradition, Promising Future — is off to a grand start.
