Mission Statement

The Lawrenceville School’s Outdoor Programs will provide students with experientially based programs and initiatives to educate students in responsible leadership, community membership, and character development and to provide interactions in the outdoor environment which will enhance both academic and non-academic skills development. These experientially based learning opportunities are designed to reach across multiple disciplines (i.e., academic, athletic, residential, and extracurricular components of the School curriculum) and enrich the development of students as responsible members of the Lawrenceville and global communities.

Contained within the Outdoor Programs mission are two areas of overriding goals:

  • Leaderships Skills - Teaching of leadership and interpersonal skills that enable students to lead within a group of their peers, the Lawrenceville community and a global community. Skills include but are not limited to: leadership styles, communication, conflict resolution, experience processing, facilitation of experience of others, etc.
  • Technical Skills - Teaching of technical skills that enable participants to safely enjoy and progress in a wide range of outdoor pursuits including but not limited to: rock climbing, canoeing, white water kayaking, backpacking, winter camping etc.
