Poet Brenda Shaughnessy to Lecture at Lawrenceville

All are invited to attend a poetry reading by Brenda Shaughnessy on January 7, 7:00 p.m., in Lawrenceville's Edith Memorial Chapel. The poet will be on campus throughout the week, attending classes, meeting with students and faculty, and speaking at an all-School meeting on Jan. 11.

Shaughnessy's most recent collection of poetry is "Our Andromeda" (Copper Canyon Press, September 2012). She's also the author of "Human Dark with Sugar," (which was a finalist for the 2008 National Book Critics Circle Award,) and "Interior with Sudden Joy." Her poems have appeared in a number of publications, including Harpers, McSweeney's, The Nation, The New Yorker, The Paris Review, and Slate.com.

Shaughnessy has received numerous honors and awards for her work, including fellowships from the Radcliffe Institute, where she was a Bunting Fellow, the Japan/U.S. Friendship Commission, and the Howard Foundation of Brown University. She has taught at universities including Columbia, the New School, Princeton, and New York University. Poetry editor-at-large of Tin House, Shaughnessy is currently an assistant professor of English at Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey, where she also teaches in the MFA program.

  • Boys’ 4x400m Team Runs Amazing Race at Penn Relays

    Lawrenceville’s 4x400-meter relay team - Michael Troup ‘17 (52.1), Meinhart Rentrup ’18 (51.7), Injil Muhammad ’17 (51.4) and Michael Bauman ’16 (49.7) - ran a truly amazing race at the Penn Relays on Saturday, finishing second in the Prep School race in 3:24.92. This time was the fastest for Lawrenceville boys at the Penn Relays since 2011 and the speediest finish in 4x400 overall in three years. Big Red is now ranked in New Jersey’s top 20 in the event.

  • Atlee to Retire as Big Red Baseball Coach

    Champ Atlee '62 H'74 '75 '79 '83 '84 '06 is hanging up his spikes, but not shelving his books. Atlee will retire as the Big Red Varsity Baseball Coach at the end of this season, his 40th. He will continue at the School as an English Master. Fellow English Master Ron Kane ‘83, assistant varsity baseball coach and head boys’ basketball coach, will take over in 2017.

  • Big Red Crew Defeats Peddie to Retain Brown Cup

    On Saturday, April 30, the Peddie School Rowing program and the Lawrenceville School rowing program raced for the Brown Cup, first contested in 1994. Big Red defeated Peddie 48-44 at the Capsersen Rowing Center, Mercer Lake, Princeton Junction, N.J.

    Fourth Former Chloe Jones has created a strong presence for herself as an athlete here at Lawrenceville, boasting tri-varsity participation in field hockey, basketball, and lacrosse since her freshman year. She recently reached a lacrosse career milestone, scoring her 100th goal for Big Red.

  • Girls’ Varsity Golf Wins 6th Consecutive Mercer County Tournament

    Lawrenceville fielded a winning combination of four golfers (Scout Hammond '16, Shahin Damji '17, Bianca Mangravite '18, and Serena Chen '19) to secure the School's sixth straight Mercer County Tournament championship. The Tournament was played on April 28 at the Mountain View Country Club, Ewing, N.J.
