Students Honored for Academic & Athletic Excellence

Five Lawrentians have been honored for their academic and athletic excellence.

Matt Apuzzi '14 gained top honors at the Mercer County High School Wrestling Championship earlier this month. Apuzzi pinned his opponent (in the 195 lbs. division) in a mere 1:54. He was selected as the tournament's "Outstanding Wrestler" by the Trentonian and by the coaches representing the 16 teams that participated in the tournament.

Fifth Formers Lauren Eckhardt, Sophie Epstein, and Julia Minnetian have earned spots on the 2012 Gladiator by SGI / National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) High School National Academic Squad. The Squad program recognizes those high school seniors who have achieved a cumulative, unweighted GPA of 3.5 out of 4.0 or the equivalent through the first quarter of the 2012-13 school year.

Ice hockey standout Emily Kreuger '13 was named this week's "Female Athlete of the Week" by the Trenton Times. Krueger skates at center for Big Red.

  • Serena Khanna Starts Medical School (A Little Early)

    Serena Khanna ’18 started her medical school education a little early. The future physician recently attended the Orthopaedic and Neurosurgery Specialists (ONS) Mini Med School, held in Greenwich, Conn. For four days, she learned – hands-on - how to treat an assortment of orthopaedic injuries. “I got to try on being an orthopaedic surgeon, which was quite a unique experience,” said Khanna.

  • Teachers Become Students in China

    More than a dozen Lawrenceville teachers recently took the trip of a lifetime to China. Their journey included trips to sites of artistic, economic, historic, political, and religious importance -- from 2,300-year old Terra Cotta Warriors and Horses to the headquarters of Alibaba (where Lawrenceville trustee Joe Tsai ’82 serves as vice chairman), the world’s fastest growing internet company. The first-hand knowledge the masters gained will now be shared with their students throughout the Lawrenceville curriculum.

  • Kris Schulte to Chair Board of Village Charter School

    History Master Kris Schulte will serve as the next board chair of the Village Charter School in Trenton, N.J., beginning in the late fall/early winter. Schulte, who has been a volunteer member of the Village Charter board since January 2014 (and now serves as the Education Chair), will continue her work at the Lawrenceville School.
