Students Honored for Academic & Athletic Excellence

Five Lawrentians have been honored for their academic and athletic excellence.

Matt Apuzzi '14 gained top honors at the Mercer County High School Wrestling Championship earlier this month. Apuzzi pinned his opponent (in the 195 lbs. division) in a mere 1:54. He was selected as the tournament's "Outstanding Wrestler" by the Trentonian and by the coaches representing the 16 teams that participated in the tournament.

Fifth Formers Lauren Eckhardt, Sophie Epstein, and Julia Minnetian have earned spots on the 2012 Gladiator by SGI / National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) High School National Academic Squad. The Squad program recognizes those high school seniors who have achieved a cumulative, unweighted GPA of 3.5 out of 4.0 or the equivalent through the first quarter of the 2012-13 school year.

Ice hockey standout Emily Kreuger '13 was named this week's "Female Athlete of the Week" by the Trenton Times. Krueger skates at center for Big Red.

    The College Board’s National Hispanic Recognition Program (NHRP) recognized eight Fifth Formers for their exceptional Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT) scores and academic records. Caroline Allen ’16, Paola Del Toro ’16, Connor Duwan ’16, Sophie Garcia ’16, Remy Kassem ’16, Morgan Nicolao ’16, Richard Soler ’16, and Jake Zabaleta ’16 are among the 5,000 nominees selected by the NHRP out of the 250,000 Hispanic and Latino juniors who took the PSAT last October.

    Lawrenceville’s Gruss Center of Visual Arts (Gruss CVA) will present “Moments, Here and Now,” a collection of works by Hae Sun Hwang. The exhibit will be on display in the Gruss CVA Hutchins Gallery donated by the Hutchins Family Foundation from Dec. 10-16 and from Jan. 5-22. An opening reception will be held on Dec. 10, in the Gallery, from 6:30 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. Both the exhibit and the reception are free and open to the public.
