Dear Guidance Counselors:

The New Jersey Scholars Program is an intensive inter-disciplinary academic summer program for the most intelligent, outgoing, and highly motivated New Jersey residents who will complete their junior year in June 2010 and be rising seniors.  During the five-week summer residential program, New Jersey Scholars explore a specific topic from an inter-disciplinary perspective.  The program takes place on the historic Lawrenceville School campus and is funded by private contributions: there is no fee to the student other than personal expenses.  Check out NJSP’s website www.lawrenceville.org/njsp for quotations from the Scholars that describe the unique opportunity this program represents.

The dates of the 2010 Program are Sunday, June 27 through Friday, July 30.  The Scholars will study HUMAN RIGHTS: PAST.  PRESENT.  FUTURE.

I invite your Guidance Department to nominate as many as three of your most gifted and dynamic juniors to apply for this exciting program.  From this pool of candidates, an NJSP selection committee will choose semifinalists who will be asked to visit The Lawrenceville School on either Friday, March 26 or Saturday, March 27.  Each semifinalist will take part in a group interview with the selection committee and in a campus tour conducted by Scholars from the Class of 2009.  The 39 candidates selected to become the New Jersey Scholars Class of 2010 will be notified in early-April.

Information about the 2010 topic and residential arrangements follow this letter along with NJSP’s Gateway to Opportunities and Mission Statement.

An application is enclosed and copies can be made if you submit more than one application.   Applications are not available online as the candidates are nominated by the school’s guidance department and a counselor submits all applications with a covering form.

Please note the application deadline is Friday, January 8, 2010.

Should you have any questions, please e-mail them to njsp@lawrenceville.org or call me at (609) 895-2213 or Margot Southerland in the New Jersey Scholars Program's office at (609) 620-6106.

Yours truly,

John P. Sauerman
