The Allegro Arts Camp provides the opportunity for children to experience and appreciate the performing arts in music, theatre, and dance. The camp will provide students with fundamental skills in each of the three disciplines: including music theory and lessons, theatre improvisation and acting, and exposure to a variety of dance styles. Campers will be rewarded for their time and effort with a final concert each week.
The camp is divided into two one-week-long sessions. The first week includes a combination of vocal and theatre instruction, while the second includes instrumental and dance instruction. Each session runs on Monday through Friday, 9:00am until 3:00pm, culminating in a final performance on Saturday. Activities throughout the day include a theatre workshop, improvisation, and scenes, for theatre; private lessons, music theory, and camp choir for music; and workshops and classes for dance.
Approximately 30 campers will attend each session accompanied by 15 student counselors who volunteer their time to share their artistic talents, and a faculty advisor from the Lawrenceville School. Campers will have the opportunity to work one-on-one with counselors as well as in a group setting.
The camp is open to children ages 8 to 14 who qualify for the federal lunch program and reside in the Lawrence Township area. Campers need not have any prior artistic experience in order to attend the camp. The camp is free for all those who qualify for attendance. Transportation, meals, instruments, music, scripts, etc., are all included.
The Allegro Arts Camp will be held at the Clark Music Center and the Kirby Arts Center of the Lawrenceville School. The Music Center has two performance halls and 16 teaching classrooms, and the Arts Center has a theatre and two dance studios.
