Prep for Prep is a long-term investment strategy to develop the leadership potential of able young people from segments of society grossly under-represented in the leadership pool from which all of our major institutions draw. By expanding the nation's leadership resources, we aim to impact indirectly on a set of inter-related problems that threaten to rend our society. Prep's strategy is to identify talented students from minority group backgrounds, prepare them for placement in independent schools, and provide a sense of community, peer support, critical post-placement services, and a range of leadership development opportunities.

PREP 9 identifies bright seventh-grade students of color from tri-state public and parochial schools. We admit approximately 75 rising eighth-graders each year who begin the program with a 14-month Preparatory Component.

PREP 9 students take classes for seven weeks during the summer and on Saturdays during the academic year. The summer session includes a two-week immersion session on The Lawrenceville School campus in Lawrenceville, New Jersey. The PREP 9 Immersion-in Residence is a very important part of our summer session, designed to help build a strong sense of community among the members of each class of PREP 9 students and to introduce them to some of the requirements and advantages of boarding school life. Upon completion of the preparatory component, students are placed in appropriate boarding schools and provided the support to succeed.
