Have you ever wanted to plant roots while traveling and stay a few extra days, or perhaps just a few more hours to enable you to draw, paint, or write creatively? Traveling inspires our creative juices, the new experiences to all of our senses fuels a new energy. This program seeks to entertain and provide the time to explore a place and then have the time to engage it artistically.
Salzburg, the ancient town that links to Celtic and Roman times, but most known for its medieval and Mozart history, serves as our first host city of inspiration. We will tour the city environs including a tour of Hohensalzburg Fortress, Mirabell Gardens, and the courtyards and plazas surrounding the Cathedral. Pulling back from the angles of the medieval old city, we will sit upon the banks of the Salzach river to cast the image of the city, or perhaps sit upon the castle hill paths to view the alps in the distance.
From Salzburg we will go into the heart of the Alps and Salzburgerland. Staying in Saalfelden at the base of the Stone Sea, we will explore the valleys, the mountain slopes and the rural alpine communities surrounding Zell am See. Bicycle tours, ice-caves, and a falconry show in the medieval castle of Hohenwerfen will inspire our artistry. A hike up the slopes of the Stone Sea for an Alpine Hut overnight with amazing views, sunset, will culminate our alpine experience.
Our days will involve both instructional time and individual time to focus on the development of personal art projects. Our collective project work from this program will be highlighted publicly in the Hutchins Gallery in Fall 2023.
