Spain
Andalusian Triangle of Religion
Look back in time at what life was like during the Middle Ages when the three Abrahamic faiths coexisted during a period of cultural splendor and exchange.
This program will center on the historical role of Judaism, Christianity, and Islam in Iberian history. Students will have the opportunity to experience the rich multicultural and multi-religious legacy of medieval Spain in conversation with contemporary issues such as demographic shifts, race, gender, and the establishment of power structures and places of worship for the various religions across the country. Students will be able to walk on stone roads built by the Romans, experience the smells and tastes of Andalusian cuisine, and witness the rich heritage of the three religious and cultural traditions while connecting the past and the present.
Experiences will also include urban hikes; visits to architectural monuments, museums, and religious sites; and engaging the rich cultural remnants of the past like food, music, and dance. Students will learn what lessons can be drawn from the past and applied to our modern world.
