Congratulations to Nikita Nesterenko ’20, selected by the Minnesota Wild in the sixth round (172nd overall) in the 2019 National Hockey League (NHL) entry draft! The forward scored 25 goals and made 25 assists for Big Red last season.
Prior to the draft, Nesterenko said, “Playing in the National Hockey League has been a dream and goal of mine ever since I was little kid. Not many are able to achieve this goal, so it would be a dream come true to play in the NHL.”
Nesterenko, who began playing hockey at age four, has had a stellar career on the ice. He was selected to the USA National Hockey National Development “17” and “15” camps. This year, he earned a spot on the USA Today ALL-USA Boys’ Hockey Third Team and was named the Trentonian’s Prep Player of the Year. Nesterenko is on the 2019-20 roster of the British Columbia Hockey League Chilliwack Chiefs and has skated for the New Jersey Junior Titans.
“News and Notes” is pleased to be featuring a series of articles by Brittany Sun '19 on the theme of “the one key moment” that helped to shape the lives of a selected group of Lawrenceville alumni. As we celebrate our nation's Independence Day, this post seemed particularly appropriate.
Through House and Harkness, Lawrenceville challenges a diverse community of promising young people to lead lives of learning, integrity, and high purpose. Our mission is to inspire the best in each to seek the best for all.
