The Calm Room: Teen Health and Wellness

It’s a tough time for everyone- getting back into the swing of hybrid learning, dealing with the uncertainty that each day brings, all while working tirelessly on school work. Sometimes, we all need a break. The Calm Room, a care package presented by The Bunn Library’s Teen Health & Wellness database, offers tools to help when you’re stressed.

Learning how to manage stress is one of the best things you can do for your mental and physical health. If you’re feeling overwhelmed, or just need to take a moment for yourself, these tools and resources can help you relax, de-stress, and refocus.

Take a look at some of the resources that The Calm Room offers: 

  • Visual Relaxation

    • Spending time outdoors is a great way to improve your mood. If you can’t make it outside, watching nature videos can have a similar calming effect on your brain and body. The Visual Relaxation section offers the sights and sounds of calming waves, a peaceful forest, and much more to help you find your sense of calm. 
  • Sounds and Music
    • Listening to calming music and nature sounds can reduce your stress levels. Classical music can also help you concentrate and stay focused while studying. Listen to a cozy crackling fireplace, or the soothing sounds of Beethoven’s Moonlight Sonata, to help you relax. 
  • Mindfulness and Meditation
    • Mindfulness is the idea of paying attention to how you feel in the present moment and accepting your emotions without judgment. The resources presented in The Calm Room, such as deep breathing exercises and guided meditations, can help you learn how to incorporate mindfulness into your daily routine.
  • Nature and Animal Cams
    • The simple act of watching cute animals can lower your heart rate and reduce stress and anxiety. Take a break and de-stress with wildlife cams of a kitten sanctuary, sea otter aquarium, baby panda garden, and more. 
  • Apps, Websites, and Podcasts
    • If you’re interested in learning more about mindfulness and managing stress, apps like Calm and Headspace, websites with soothing sound generators and virtual bubble wrap popping, and podcasts like “Ten Percent Happier” can help. 
  • Other Resources
