Employee Guide

Welcome to the Employee Guide for returning to campus during COVID-19. Below, you will find information about policies, procedures, and expectations for all employees of The Lawrenceville School along with resources and avenues for support during this challenging time.

Community Suggestion Box

Do you have a suggestion or an idea to improve the Lawrenceville experience? We are interested in hearing from you! Thoughts, ideas, feedback, and suggestions are welcome. The Community Suggestion Box is an anonymous tool and a way to communicate your ideas to Human Resources who will share the information and partner with select Administrators to evaluate each suggestion carefully. It is open to all with the sole purpose of improving the quality of the Lawrenceville experience and for building a sense of community among staff, faculty, administrators, and students.

COVID-Cautious Practices and Best for All Agreement

Best for All Agreement

To truly “seek the best for all” in our Lawrenceville community, we must trust, value, support, and respect one another. It is with this in mind that we ask all members of the Lawrenceville community to commit to this “Best for All” Agreement. Specific COVID-19 expectations and policies are set forth in the Student and Employee Handbooks. The School may change or amend these expectations and policies as circumstances warrant.

Face Coverings and Mask Requirements

In accordance with the NJ DOH February 7, 2022 announcement lifting universal indoor masking requirement for schools (effective on March 7, 2022), as well as Head of School Steve Murray’s March 26, 2022 letter regarding change to a mask-optional policy, the School will no longer require indoor mask wearing for students, employees, and visitors to campus.

OSHA Compliance

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (“OSHA”) has developed guidelines relating to COVID-19 for employers. In general, OSHA designates members of school communities as at “moderate risk” for exposure and transmission of COVID-19. OSHA recommends that employers develop plans and procedures to protect employees who are at moderate risk of transmission.

Ordering Personal Protective Equipment

In order to ensure the School has an adequate inventory of personal protective equipment (PPE) for students, faculty, and staff, requests for additional orders of PPE will be routed to the Facilities department for processing. The School has purchased sufficient supplies to meet its needs through the Fall term, and is working to maintain inventories to enable the School to ensure smooth, safe operations for as long as necessary.

Surveillance Testing and Tracing

COVID-19 Screening and Sick Policy

Regular self-monitoring and reporting of symptoms by all students and employees working on or off campus has been an essential measure in limiting the spread of SARS-COV2, the virus responsible for COVID-19, between persons who are pre-symptomatic, symptomatic, or asymptomatic. Please review attached recommendations regarding isolation for individuals who have tested positive for COVID-19, or quarantine for those who have been exposed to infected individuals.

COVID-19 Testing

In accordance with Head of School Steve Murray’s March 26, 2022 letter the School will no longer conduct COVID surveillance testing, but will offer rapid testing to symptomatic individuals, including students, and employees seeking guidance for reporting to work.

Contact Tracing

Although the requirement for on-campus employees to carry and regularly scan a POM reading device has been lifted, it is vitally important for any employee who tests positive for COVID-19 to report it promptly to hr@lawrenceville.org in order to initiate follow up contact tracing when applicable.

Travel and Visiting Campus

Visitors and Access to Campus

Proof of vaccination will be required of any visitor to the Children’s Center (please see other requirements in Visitors & Access to Campus Additional Guidelines). The School requires all eligible individuals to get a booster shot by January 31, 2022 in order to be considered fully vaccinated. This decision is consistent with the CDC’s strong recommendation that eligible individuals receive the full COVID-19 dose and the booster and supports our commitment to the Best For All Agreement.

Persons who need to come to campus for an appointment must seek approval from and coordinate their visit with a School employee ("Primary School Contact"), schedule an exact appointment time in advance, and stay within designated areas of campus.

Wellness and Leaves

Vaccinations

As vaccines became more widely available and an increasing number of faculty and staff were able to be immunized against COVID-19, the School investigated the feasibility of returning to in-person learning in the fall, and in May 2021 announced that all students and employees would be expected to be vaccinated as a condition of employment unless they wished to seek exemption based on medical or religious grounds. On December 31, 2021, it was announced that all eligible faculty and staff are required to receive a booster shot by January 31, 2022.

Communicable Illnesses Policy

The School’s top priority is the health and wellness of the entire School community. Therefore, the School strongly urges that employees take necessary and reasonable steps to avoid spreading illnesses during the period of contagion (generally the first 5-14 days of a viral illness and 48 hours after starting antibiotic medications for most bacterial illnesses).

Employee Assistance Program

Employees and their immediate family members seeking assistance with psychological, emotional, or substance abuse issues may seek help through the Penn Medicine Princeton Employee Assistance Program (EAP). This program provides confidential counseling and support services to Lawrenceville employees and their families.

Emergency Paid Sick Leave (EPSL) Policy

This Emergency Paid Sick Leave Policy amends the School’s prior policy giving employees Emergency Paid Sick Leave. The School will provide extra sick leave to make sure that employees have sufficient leave to care for themselves and others who are sick from the coronavirus. Please contact HR for additional questions.
