Girls’ Squash Second, Boys’ Eighth, at U.S. High School Squash Championships

Congratulations to the Lawrenceville School girls’ and boys’ squash teams, which finished second and eighth, respectively, at the 2024 U.S. High School Squash Championships. This is the highest-ever tournament finish for the Big Red girls.

After a 5-2 victory in the semis against second-seeded Hotchkiss, the Lawrenceville girls were edged out 5-2 in the finals against Greenwich Academy, which won its eighth consecutive and seventeenth overall title.

The boys defeated Andover (4-3) in the first round, but fell to top-ranked (and ultimate champion) St. Andrews (7-0) in the quarter finals.

Matches were held in Philadelphia on Feb. 23-25, and featured 1,600 players from 203 teams representing 17 states. The Big Red fan bus brought Lawrentians to Philadelphia on Sunday to cheer on their classmates.

Trustee Kevin Volpp ‘85 (whose daughter Daphne ‘24 is a member of the girls’ varsity squad) lauded all involved in the successful season, including Lawrenceville’s facilities team, which worked diligently in the midst of Tsai Field House construction to make sure the squash courts were in top form. “Having the home courts in our beautiful squash facility available all season to get these teams prepared for this moment clearly was instrumental to their success,” Volpp said. He also extended his immense gratitude to the coaching staff, including the boys' and girls' head coach Rob Krrizek and assistant coach Sergii Zakomlystov, for their leadership of and dedication to Big Red squash.
