Dancers Step Up to the Barre with Philadelphia Ballet

Lawrenceville’s advanced dance class stepped up to the barre last week for a master class taught by Pau Pujol, a Demi Soloist with the Philadelphia Ballet. They were joined by Philadelphia Ballet II dancers Ashley Lewis and Ana Perez, who, along with Pujol, were available to answer questions about what it is like to dedicate their lives at such a young age to their art.

Randy Benedict (Philadelphia Ballet II program manager, in school partnerships) said the class was “a good way to bring people together” and give Lawrentians a “realistic view” of what it is like to be a professional dancer. “It’s also great for us to be out in the community,” he said. Michael Lambui (Philadelphia Ballet studio visits program manager, in school partnerships) agreed, stating that he hopes the class will “get even more young people energized about dance.”

The class was part of a growing partnership between Lawrenceville and the Philadelphia Ballet. In December, Lawrenceville dancers watched the Ballet perform “The Nutcracker” at the Academy of Music (Philadelphia), then met the evening’s stars backstage.
