Dresdner Quartet Wins NJAST Quarter-Fest Competition

Congratulations to Lawrenceville’s Dresdner Quartet, which won the New Jersey American String Teachers NJAST) Quartet-Fest competition, held Jan. 21 at the John J. Cali School of Music at Montclair State University. Members of the group are Arisa Okamura ’25, Henry Tsai ‘26, Arya Vishwakarma ‘25, and Angela Yang ‘25. Students performed Mendelssohn Op. 13 Quartet in A Minor and Shostakovich String Quartet No. 8 in C minor. Each student won a cash award and the quartet will give a special performance at the NJAST state meeting in the late spring.

Lawrenceville Orchestra Director Elizabeth Guerriero coaches the Dresdner Quartet and, at the event, students also received instruction from Mark Steinberg of the Brentano Quartet (Yale School of Music Artist-in-Residence), Kathryn Lockwood of the Lark Quartet (Montclair State University Cali School of Music Associate Professor), and Tomoko Fujita (Montclair State University Cali School of Music Assistant Professor and Princeton University Department of Music Performance Faculty).
