Lawrenceville Dance Springs into Motion

Lawrenceville’s dance companies will spring into motion on April 24! The Lawrenceville School Dance Collective, as well as the Lawrenceville School Dance Team, Tour de Force, Lkrew, Suave, and FRObeats will perform a hybrid live/livestream/recorded performance in the Kirby Arts Center beginning at 7 p.m. The livestream is available to current students, faculty, and staff only – a recording will shared with Lawrenceville dance fans after the show.

This production was created, rehearsed, and will be performed in adherence with Lawrenceville’s Best for All Agreement, including Mask and Face Covering Requirements. Extremely limited seating has been made available to current community members who have been cleared to be physically present on campus, again in adherence with the School’s Best for All Agreement.

The program features the cultures and dance styles that showcase the diversity of Lawrenceville’s student ensembles. Many of the dances are student choreographed and the remainder by Lawrenceville’s dance faculty. “Our dancers/athletes are always pushing themselves to greater heights, facing bolder challenges, working collaboratively, problem-solving complex choreographic computations, and pushing themselves to the edge,” said director of dance Derrick Wilder. “That passion and energy are what sets them leaps and bounds ahead, giving them a leg up for life's many challenges.”

LKrew performer and choreographer Kajal Dongre’22, who will also dance with Tour de Force, said she’s excited for the School community to see how hard the dancers have been working. Normally, she explained, preparation for the spring performance would have been much longer. “I think the fact that we are able to bring together an amazing performance under such unprecedented circumstances just shows how adaptable the performing arts department and our dancers are,” she said. “Everyone has worked so hard to bring it all together with very little time. To me, it means that the dance community at Lawrenceville can really handle anything!”

Second Former Aoife Kilfeather will perform with the School’s premier dance troupe, the Lawrenceville School Dance Collective. “Being able to perform in these unusual times is very exciting, and feels like a breath of fresh air!” she said. “I am so thankful for everyone who helped make this happen.”

Fifth Former Mason Du, who will dance with Tour de Force, Suave, and LKrew, said that being able to perform before an audience is “hugely important for me and for so many others.”

He continued, “I've always loved performing live and to be able to do it one last time before leaving the School means the world to me, especially when I get to do it with some of my closest friends.  For those who have performed before, this is an amazing opportunity to showcase new work, but I also know some first-time dancers who will show what they have to the School for the first time, which is really exciting to see.”
