Big Shot: Yushi Kamisaku ’26 Photographs the Yankees

On May 21, Yushi Kamisaku ’26 had a rare opportunity, invited to photograph the New York Yankees as they defeated the Texas Rangers 4-3 on the Bronx Bombers’ home field. The invitation came from Ariele Goldman Hecht ‘97, the Yankees senior photography editor and chief photographer. Their connection came through Lawrenceville Athletic Trainer Michael Goldenberg, who has remained in contact with Hecht since he was a member of the Stanley House duty team. Kamisaku is an avid student sports photographer who has studied filmmaking at Lawrenceville and created images for Big Red athletics, particularly for the football and boys’ lacrosse teams.

Kamisaku shadowed Hecht as she shot the Yankees’ pre-game warmups, then joined professional photographers in both the right and left field media boxes through the seventh inning.

The experience, Kamisaku said, was “simply unforgettable.”

“I’m forever grateful to Ms. Goldman. She went beyond what I was expecting, not just stopping at providing me on-field access, but also lending me equipment and introducing me to countless members of the Yankees organization, players, and employees,” he said. “This opportunity completely transformed my horizon, allowing me to have a glimpse of what professional photography as a career can look like. I am truly indebted to the kindness of Ms. Goldman and Mr. Goldenberg for this experience.”
