Lawrenceville Mourns the Loss of Artemis A.W. Joukowsky '50 P'80

Lawrenceville mourns the loss of Artemis A.W. Joukowsky, Class of 1950, parent 1980, and an exceptionally dedicated member of the School's Board of Trustees. Art served as a trustee from 1984 through 2006, and as a trustee emeritus thereafter, helping guide and support Lawrenceville for more than 36 years. His steadfast devotion to our School, including his service as Board president from 1997 to 2001, will be remembered by many.

Art’s leadership began early – with House Council, Student Council, and School Camp – and continued on the Alumni Association Executive Committee and in other significant roles before he joined the Board. His unwavering and outstanding support of School priorities encompassed all aspects of Lawrenceville, helping make better and stronger the faculty, financial aid, building projects, study abroad, athletics and the arts. He served as co-chair of The Lawrenceville Leadership Campaign from 1991 to 1996. Together with his wife, Martha, Art was among our most generous donors and was a member of both the Sixth Form and the John Cleve Green Society. In 2005 Art was awarded The Distinguished Alumni Award by the Lawrenceville School Alumni Association. His impact on Lawrenceville will resonate far into the future.

We are joined in mourning Art’s loss and celebrating his life by his family – his wife Martha, children Nina, Artemis W. III ’80, and Misha, and his grandchildren – but also by the Brown University community, where Art held the positions of chancellor and later chancellor emeritus, and was a member of the Brown Board of Fellows.
