Lawrenceville Pride Week Begins Today

Lawrenceville’s Gender and Sexuality Alliance (GSA) leads the School’s annual celebration of Pride Week beginning today. While LGBTQ+ Pride celebrations are generally held in June (during Pride month) Lawrenceville is celebrating early while school is in session.

Pride Week’s schedule is as follows

Monday, April 19: Ally Boards

LGBTQ+ allies can sign their name on Ally Boards placed around campus. Boards will be up throughout the week.

Tuesday, April 20: Spectrum Issue Two & Hot Chocolate

Spectrum, Lawrenceville’s LGBTQ+ publication, will be having a sneak peek event – with hot chocolate - for its second issue. The GSA is also holding a fundraiser to benefit Pride and Less Prejudice, an organization that distributes age-appropriate LGBTQ-friendly books to elementary schools

Wednesday, April 21: School Meeting Readings

At this week’s School meeting, prominent members of the Lawrenceville community will be reading anonymous submissions from LGBTQ+ students about their life experiences.

Thursday, April 22 Final Day for Fundraiser

Thursday will be the last day to purchase a candy gram to benefit Pride and Less Prejudice.

Friday, April 23: National Day of Silence & Pride Flag Raising

April 23 is the National Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network Day of Silence, during which students remain silent for the duration of the school day, to bring awareness to the silencing that the LGBTQ+ community faces. The GSA will be hosting a debrief Zoom meeting on Friday evening.

For the first time in Lawrenceville’s history, the School will fly the Pride flag on campus. The Pride flag will be raised on April 23 to commemorate the Day of Silence.
