Public Forum Debate Team Wins Cottonwood Classic

Carina Li ‘22

On January 30, Lawrenceville’s Public Forum Debate Team won the final and claimed three of the four semifinal spots at the third annual Cottonwood Classic Debate Tournament. The National Speech and Debate Association sponsors this event.

Since the two final teams - Ashley Wang ’23/ Anushka Chintamaneni ’23 and Carina Li ’22/Audre Zvinys ’22 - were from Lawrenceville, they were declared co-winners with perfect 5-0 records. Two other duos, Ben Cavanagh ’23/Andrew Park ’23 and Alex Mykhantso ’23/Nichole Jin ’24 won three of their four preliminary rounds, and Mykhantso/Jin moved on to semifinals.

Lawrenceville’s rookie performance at the Tournament was especially impressive as they competed against a field of over 20 teams. Although participating in tournaments online is a challenge, the Public Forum Team has remained active, and their recent success at this tournament is a perfect example of its ongoing dedication.
