Tristan Wan ’23 Qualifies for USA Junior Mathematical Olympiad

Congratulations to Tristan Wan ’23, who has qualified for the United States of America Junior Mathematical Olympiad [USA(J)MO]. His outstanding score on the American Math Competition (AMC) - which placed him among the top tenth grade math students in the U.S. - and the American Invitational Mathematics Exam (AIME) qualified him for the USA(J)MO. Wan will take the exam today and tomorrow.

According to mathematics teacher Ian Mook, only the top five percent of AMC test takers will qualify to take the AIME. “Only the top AMC and AIME performers will qualify for the USAJMO -- about 240 students nationwide,” Mook explained.

The top participants from the USA(J)MO will be invited to this summer’s Mathematical Olympiad Program. Participants from the Mathematical Olympiad Program are then eligible to be selected for the following summer’s six-member team that will represent the United States of America at the International Mathematical Olympiad.
