Joe Hurle ’19 Signs NCAA National Letter of Intent with Colgate University

Gridiron great Joe Hurle ’19 signed an NCAA National Letter of Intent this morning, committing to continue his career as a student-athlete at Colgate University. The offensive lineman, who hails from Jackson, N.J., said he chose Colgate because “it is outstanding academically and offers the extremely valuable opportunity to be a part of a football team with a championship culture.”
Hurle joined Big Red last fall as a post-graduate and in September was selected as the Offensive Lineman of the Week by the 12th Man TD Club. His outstanding play earned him a spot on the all Mid-Atlantic Prep League (MAPL) First Team this year.
As a student-athlete at Jackson Memorial High School (Jackson, N.J.), Hurle won two Central Jersey Group Four State Championships (2014, 2015) and was the 2017 team Most Valuable Player. He was twice named to the All-State Group Four First Team (2016, 2017) and to the All-Shore First Team in 2017.
Harry Flaherty, Lawrenceville’s Head Football Coach, said, “Joe did an outstanding job for us this year as a postgraduate. He is as dominant an offensive lineman as we have had at Lawrenceville, and his physicality, effort, and toughness set a great example for our team. He played very well against outstanding competition in the MAPL. Joe will fit well at Colgate in the classroom and on the playing field. We will miss him next year.”

Tomorrow, we'll feature Lawrenceville student-athletes who have committed to continuing their sports in college but did not sign an NCAA National Letter of Intent.
