Diassa Diakite ’19 Honored for Academics & Athletics
Harvard-bound Diassa Diakite ’19 will be honored for his academic and athletic success at the 57th annual George Wah Scholar-Athlete Dinner on March 10. He will receive a $1,000 scholarship and is eligible for three others, ranging from $1,500 to $5,000. The dinner, to be held at the Princeton Marriott, is sponsored by the Delaware Valley Chapter of the National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame.
Called “the epitome of an all-around athlete” by The Trentonian, Diakite has been a four-year varsity player for Big Red, starting at both running back and cornerback. Look for him at defensive back at Harvard next year.
He’s been an all-MAPL selection for the past two years and was defensive team captain in 2018. Lawrenceville’s Head Football Coach Harry Flaherty told The Trentonian, “[Diakite] is one of the top two or three most impactful players we have had in the program in the recent years.”
A four-year Dean’s List student, Diakite is a member of the School’s Alliance of Black Cultures, a Dickinson House Prefect, and has been a counselor at School Camp.
Mathematics Master and Dickinson Housemaster Keith Dupee lauded Diakite for his “attentiveness and work ethic.” He told The Trentonian that Diakite’s academic performance “ranked in the top ten percent of his peers in the class. He has a sound mind for learning. . . . It is a pleasure to work with a young man like Diassa. He has the ability to connect with faculty members and classmates from all different backgrounds.”
