The Executive Committee of the Lawrenceville School Alumni Association has announced the names of this year’s two new Selectors and the Alumni Trustee. Jennifer Staikos ’91 succeeds Jon Weiss ’75 as Alumni Trustee, and the new Alumni Selectors are James Laurance “Rocky” Barber, Jr. ’69 P’08 and Nina Mackenzie Kumar ’02. The announcement was made by Alumni Association President Ian S. Rice '95 at the Alumni Association Induction Ceremony and Awards Presentation as part of Lawrenceville’s Alumni Weekend.
The Alumni Trustee serves a four-year, rotating term and is chosen from a list of distinguished alumni based on their service to the School through alumni programs.
Jennifer Staikos ’91
Jennifer entered Lawrenceville in 1989 from Bernardsville, New Jersey. She lived in Kirby and Reynolds, played soccer and served as co-captain of her ice hockey team, earning a Major L in both. She was also a member of the Open Door Society. Jennifer went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Le Moyne College. As a Lawrenceville alumna, she served the Alumni Association Executive Committee for twelve years, holding the position of president from 2014-2017. She has been a member of the School’s Coeducation Committee, and also a member of her 15th, 20th, and 25th Reunion Committees. Jennifer was also a Bicentennial National Campaign Committee volunteer.
Jennifer spent her early career working with ESPN and World Wrestling Entertainment before moving on to several consulting positions, including a position as a marketing consultant for the AMC Network show, “Mad Men.”
She went on to form The Ridley Group, Inc., a boutique event marketing company focused on sports and entertainment clients. She currently works as a freelance event marketing professional.
Jennifer and her husband, Bill, live in Princeton, New Jersey, with their three children.
Each year, two new Selectors are chosen by alumni vote from a slate of nominees put forth by the Alumni Executive Committee. Serving three-year, rotating terms, a team of six Selectors meets annually to select the Alumni Trustee.
James Laurance “Rocky” Barber, Jr. ’69 P’08
Rocky Barber came to Lawrenceville in 1965 from New York City as a Second Former. He lived in Griswold House and participated in Campus Guides, Periwig, The Lawrence, and numerous student clubs. He was also a member of the track, baseball, and soccer teams. He went on to earn three degrees from Stanford University: B.A. in 1973, M.S. in 1973, and M.B.A. in 1975.
Upon graduating from Stanford, Rocky worked for the Stanford University Endowment. In 1977, he moved to Chicago, serving as president of Alliance Capital Fixed Income Mutual Funds. In 1986, Rocky joined William Blair & Co., serving as a portfolio manager and leading the Investment Management Group for 18 years before returning to the West Coast. Rocky is currently senior vice president and head of equities for RNC Genter, an investment management firm in West Los Angeles.
Rocky is active in alumni activities and currently serves as 50th Reunion co-chair and chair of the John Cleve Green Society for the class of ’69. He is also a class agent and was a member of the Planning Committee for his 45th Reunion. Rocky’s other interests include serving as president of the Winnetka (Illinois) Park District, chairman of the Ethics Committee of the Chicago Analysts Society, and chairman of local Boy Scout Troop 20 in Winnetka. He currently serves as a board member and treasurer of the Bel Air Association. Rocky is married to Nancy Revy and lives in Bel Air. He has two grown children, Christina ’08 and Rance.
Nina Mackenzie Kumar ’02
Nina came to Lawrenceville as a Third Former from Springfield, Tennessee. She lived in Kirby and Reynolds, was actively involved in Lawrenceville swimming and water polo, and was a Campus Guide. She went on to the University of St. Andrews, where she continued to both swim and play water polo. Nina graduated from St. Andrews with honors, earning a degree in international relations, and then returned to Tennessee to earn her Juris Doctor from Vanderbilt University.
After law school, Nina clerked for The Honorable Holly M. Kirby of the Tennessee Supreme Court. She is now a partner at Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough LLP in Nashville and serves as a member of the firm’s Operating Committee.
Nina has been a long-time class agent and class secretary for the Class of 2002, and also served on the Reunion Committee for her 15th Reunion. She is very active in her Nashville community, devoting her time to the First United Methodist Church, Daughters of the American Revolution, Leadership Middle Tennessee, the Tennessee Bar Association, Young Lawyers Division, Junior League of Nashville, the Nashville Conflict Resolution Center, and Wills for Heroes. In her spare time, Nina enjoys running, hot yoga, the Tennessee Titans football team, the Nashville Predators hockey team, and following U.S. education policy.
