Fifth Formers Ben Fiske & Jacob Wu Win National Merit Scholarships

Congratulations to Fifth Formers Ben Fiske and Jacob Wu, recipients of 2019 National Merit Scholarships (NMS). Fiske has received a $2,500 scholarship from the National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC) and Wu has won a National Merit Johnson & Johnson Scholarship.
Fiske is among 2,500 winners selected from a pool of more than 15,000 NMS Finalists and will receive funds from NMSC. The money can be applied to tuition at any regionally accredited U.S. college or university. Wu has received a National Merit corporate-sponsored scholarship, funded by Johnson & Johnson Services, Inc. This honor provides 20 Scholarships to employees of the corporation and its business units, chosen from among NMS Finalists.
Winners of both scholarships are selected based on their abilities, skills, and accomplishments—without regard to gender, race, ethnic origin, or religious preference. Evaluation criteria include the student’s academic record, information about the school's curricula and grading system, two sets of test scores, the high school official's written recommendation, information about the student's activities and leadership, and the student’s own essay.
The National Merit Scholarship Program (NMSP) is an academic competition for recognition and scholarships that began in 1955. High school students enter the NMSP by taking the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test)—which serves as an initial screen of approximately 1.6 million entrants each year—and by meeting published program entry and participation requirements.
