5 Questions 4: Brian Tan ‘21

Multitalented Brian Tan is L10 News' Senior Features Editor and, when he’s not in the show’s Pop Hall studios, you can find him at the piano. What newsmaker would he most like to interview? Which song does he want to play at Midday Music? Find out this and more in 5 Questions 4.

If you could interview anyone in the world for L10, who would you choose?
I would interview Dr. Bennet Omalu, a pathologist from the Pittsburgh area, who researched more into concussions and the long lasting effects of chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE) in former NFL players. I admire his courage to enter an unknown territory and his eccentricity to keep samples inside the refrigerator, right next to his groceries.

What is your favorite song to perform?
I love “Maple Leaf Rag” by Scott Joplin. I have not played it at a Midday Music (yet), but most people in my House have heard me play the song at least twice a week.

If you could have any super power, what would you choose?
Flight. Wouldn’t it be so cool to fly from place to place?

What’s one question every prospective student should ask his/her tour guide?
Every prospective student should ask: “How is the school community?” You will be at a school for an x number of years while making friends and long lasting relationships. A good school community will guarantee you those things.

What’s the most meaningful community service project you’ve ever done?
Definitely the A2Z Tutoring Program at the Ewing Library, an LCAP I did all three terms last year. I have a mentee who had trouble writing and I felt accomplished when he went from writing single words to multiple sentences.
