Young Democrats Raise Funds to Combat Climate Crisis
In an ambitious and delicious fundraiser, Lawrenceville’s Young Democrats raised nearly $1,000 to combat the climate crisis. Students sold donuts, in both the Irwin and Abbott Dining Halls, to benefit 350.org, a non-profit, sustainable energy advocacy group. The recent Global Climate Strike, headed by activist Greta Thunberg, was spearheaded through 350.org.
Cait Levy, president of the School’s Young Democrats, said she was happy to raise both funds and awareness, explaining, “I’m not here to complain and say, ‘It was your fault, older generations,’ because many people didn’t know what was happening. [However] they are the ones in power now and they aren’t taking action or responsibility. So now it is our turn – and I can vote in the next election.”
