Jan. 9: Girls’ Basketball Ready to Grill Hill

It’s a game 21 years in the making.
Lawrenceville’s girls’ varsity basketball team will battle archrival Hill in the Lavino Field House on Wednesday, January 9, at 4:00 p.m. This will be the 28th time the Big Red girls have tipped off against the Rams in School history. Hill leads the historic series 19-8, but Lawrenceville has been dominant over the past six years.
The rivalry isn’t just among players – count in the coaches, too. This is Head Coach Grey Simpson’s first year at the helm of Lawrenceville’s girls’ varsity basketball team after coaching at Hill for seven years. Assistant Coach Charise Hall, part of the Big Red coaching staff for the past decade, has helped lead the Lawrenceville renaissance. And Assistant Coach Jessica Pine is a Hill alum who played for the Rams in 2000-01.
“It is an exciting opportunity for any athlete or coach to participate in a rivalry game. The Lawrenceville-Hill rivalry is unique because of the long history between the two schools. Everyone knows you can throw out the records and any expectations when it comes to a rivalry game,” said Simpson. “I think both teams are very evenly matched this year, so it should be a close and hard fought game. We are excited to be able to play this one in front of our home crowd.”
