Innovative Use of Technology

The Information Technology Services (ITS) department supports the use of information technologies for the School’s academic and administrative needs. The mission of Information Technology Services is to encourage and support the productive and innovative use of technology within the entire Lawrenceville School community.

  • All students must bring a laptop that can run Microsoft Office

    • All student must have a laptop that is able to run Microsoft Office. 
      Teachers will distribute files in, and expect student work to be turned in using Microsoft Office. Most modern laptops can run Office, but we have suggested hardware options below.
    • Students who do not have Microsoft Office can bring their laptop to the Help Desk who can provide a copy.
    • Day Students should be prepared to bring their charged laptops to class each day.
  • Boarders should also bring

    • Install/restore discs for your computer system and Office software (if you have them)
    • Serial numbers and contact information for warranty support
    • Surge Protector (fire code prohibits the use of extension cords on campus)
  • Laptop recommendations

    • Intel Core i3/m3, i5/m5 (preferred), or i7/m7 processor
    • 4-8 GB RAM
    • Windows 8.1 / 10 or higher
    • Mac OS X 10.9 (“Mavericks”) or higher
  • Additional hardware recommendations

    • Day Students may want to purchase an additional laptop charger to leave at school
    • Carrying case and locking cable
  • Unsupported or restricted hardware

    The following devices are prohibited:
    • Any networking equipment including hubs, routers, and switches
    • Wireless access points
    • While permitted, the School does not provide support for personal or wireless printers (there are shared laser printers in each House, and in the Library and the computer labs)
  • Other software requirements

    • Up-to-date anti-virus / spyware / malware protection software with subscription to updates.
  • Warranty recommendations

    • 3-4 years full warranty
    • Full accidental damage coverage for laptops, including screens.
  • TechConnect days

    A computer orientation session for all new students (“TechConnect”) will be held during Registration Days. At that time, students will be shown how to connect their laptop to our wireless network, provided with Microsoft Office if needed, have their laptops configured to use the House laser printer, and other tasks required to make their laptop ready for the first day of classes. Please make sure to attend on your registration day.
