Event Details: Established in 1999 by Walter W. Buckley, Jr. ’56 P’96 ’99 GP’09, the Charles F. Weeden III H’65 Great Historians Lecture series honors the memory of Charles F. “Chuck” Weeden III H’65 ’92 P’77 ’79 ’87, an esteemed teacher, Housemaster and coach to four decades of Lawrentians.
Ron Chernow will discuss Ulysses S. Grant, the subject of his latest book, Grant (published 2017). Chernow is the author of numerous award-winning biographies of historical figures. He was awarded the 2011 Pulitzer Prize for Biography and the 2011 American History Book Prize for Washington: A Life. He is also the recipient of the National Book Award for Nonfiction and the George S. Eccles Prize for Excellence in Economic Writing. His biography of Alexander Hamilton served as the inspiration for the musical Hamilton, for which Chernow worked as a historical consultant.
