Ojo ’21 & Ross ’20 Honored as Top Mercer County Soccer Players

Congratulations to Marcia Ojo ’21 and Maggie Ross ’21, recently honored by Mercer 33 as two of the best Mercer County high school girls’ soccer players. The Lawrentians were two of 42 student-athletes lauded by the organization, which held its 25th annual award ceremony earlier this month.

Jess Magnuson, head coach of the Big Red girls’ varsity soccer team said that Ojo is one of Lawrenceville’s most versatile players. “Marcia went from playing defense her freshmen year to striker and midfield this year, leading our team in goals and assists this past fall. She’s fast, dynamic, and knows the game well, and she has been receptive to playing where the team needs her. Regardless of who she is playing next to, she makes an impact on the field and makes those around her better. In addition to soccer, she is a School record holder on our track team, and we are very excited to have her for two more years

Ross, a three-year varsity starter for Big Red, is, according to Magnuson, “the glue that holds our defensive shape together.” The coach continued, “Maggie is arguably our best one-on-one defender and has a good awareness of the game. Out of every player on our team, she logged the most minutes on the field. Besides her on-field skills, she is a constant support for her teammates and is always willing to help out when needed. From the shy and timid freshman we saw just two years ago, she has emerged into a more confident, mature, and well-rounded player for us. Her efforts earned her All-Prep and All-MAPL first team, and we look forward to having another year with her next year. “
